The stitcher
Meet Joy.
Joy started embroidering more than 40 years ago, at home in Illinois, to help pay private-school tuition for four boys.
In 2006 she put the Chicago flag on a hat. The first ones sold at Revolver, a boutique on Belmont in Chicago, and people kept asking for more cities. Twenty years later she still stitches every hat herself, on her Tajima at home.
The craft
Not a patch. A stitch.
Every flag is stitched straight into the cap. No patch, no print, no glue.
Joy runs each design three times so it sits raised and stays sharp. On a Chicago hat she sews the bars first, bottom up, then the stars from the center out. Six points on every star.
The shipping department
Then it rides to the post office.
Joy's husband packs every order by hand. Then he straps the boxes to the back of his e-bike and rides them to the post office himself.
From our house to yours
Thank you for wearing our work.
The four boys are grown now, and there are grandkids and great-grandkids. Every hat you buy helps Joy and her husband enjoy retirement: more tennis and more visits with the family. Every order still gets the same care as the first one.
